2007…Best Nokia Year Ever Part I- Devices and Hardware

Kirollos Fares | December 29, 2007

The year 2007 was a changing point in Nokia’s history , it witnessed the best collection of symbian phones produced by Nokia: 5700 , 6110 Navigator , 6120c , E51 , E61i , E65 , E90 , N76 , N77 , N81 , N82 , N93i , N95 and N95 8GB .

The specs of Nokia phones were updated tremendously , the first Nokia GPS equipped Phone appeared late 06 , but was released on 07 which is the N95 , Nokia Cameras got better , 5 Megapixel cameras were included in N82 , N95 and N95 8GB , Xenon Flash was later added in N82 , which is something good from the world’s largest manufacturer of digital cameras , N81 Was the first device in Nokia’s history that has dedicated gaming keys , even N-gage don’t have it .

Nokia’s phone hardware changes of 2007 included the addition of Accelerometer chips in the N95 and N82 , Which was later used by developers to create innovative applications like Rotateme and Nokmote .

Connectivity in Nokia’s got way better in 2007 , N93i was the first Nokia to have a 3.5G/HSDPA chip , increasing internet browsing speed to 3.6 MB/S , the N95-3 was the first Nokia to have a 3.5G/HSDPA that technically works on American standards , though AT&T is the only 3.5G network supported by the chip .

When it comes to the outside changes to Nokia phones , Nokia phones got bigger screens 2.4″ for N95/N81 and 2.6″ for N95 8GB , Double Sliding Phones were introduced by Nokia , in the N95 and was later copied by other companies including Samsung , A Nokia patent revealed a triple sliding concept that will be used in Nokia phones in the future , batteries got bigger 1200 mAH for N95 8GB , Latest patent from Nokia in 07 showed a new charger for phones , much like Apple MacBook’s Magsafe Charger .

That’s all the new things introduced by Nokia in 07 “in terms of devices & hardware” , if i missed something , please comment…. :)

nope - Telstra in Australia also have a 850MHz UMTS (3.5G) network. In fact - it has much larger coverage than AT&Ts. N95-3’s are selling very well for Telstra - they had to wait a long time until Nokia released a phone for 850UMTS (6120) so the sales reps are now happy!
