10 Must Have Applications For The N81

Kirollos Fares | February 1, 2008

This post is a little bit off the review, I’m Posting this because alot of people purchase very powerful Nokia handsets, and they don’t ultimately use it.
By installing Symbian applications, The potentials of what your Nseries could do is limitless, This list includes what i believe the 10 must have applications that needs to be installed on your Nokia N81.

Let the countdown begin ;) .

10-Google Maps:
Google Maps adds positioning functionality to your Nokia N81, even without hooking it up to a Bluetooth GPS device, With a new service called My Location which enables positioning of the device Via cell towers. the application is able to position the device within meters, and via satellite imagery, your role is to spot where you are within those meters, cool huh?! Download NOW

9-Flickr Sharing Link:
This is not an application to install on your Nokia N81, In Fact, it is already installed and it requires only activation,.
You can activate Flickr sharing link, by going to Gallery>Images, and from Options, Choose open online service, Then activate either Flickr or Vox, By clicking the centre key.
By activating the share link, instant online sharing of photos functionality is added to your device, after activation, all you need to share a photo online is to choose the photo from Gallery, then Send> Post to web, and it will be online in no time.
Please note that activation requires an account on Flickr, and an Internet connection

8-Opera Mini:
I’m not including Opera Mini, the all famous mobile browser, to dump the S60 Browser, Opera Mini is able to process and show web pages easily and faster than the S60 Browser, So if you’re in a hurry and want to check something real fast, use it, other than that the S60 Browser is highly recommendable.
The application promises to bring the full web to your phone, though this promise isn’t granted in the current version, some basic scripts aren’t loaded, But still it’s a lot faster then the integrated browser. Download NOW

7-Truphone:
Truphone is by far the most famous internet telephony application for S60, Truphone offered free calls to 40 countries for FREE!! till the end of 07, they expanded it till the end of Februrary 08.
Calls from Truphone to Truphone are always free, so if you got two voIP Nokia devices in the family, this could help a lot in reducing your phone bill.
Wait, there’s more, By signing up with truphone, they’ll charge your account with £2/US $2, Great to call your troubled relative that fled to Madagascar and say hey!
You can get Truphone by texting Tru to +44 7624 000 000 or by Download NOW

6-Fring:
Aonther voIP client, but i didn’t add it to the list for that purpose, i added it as it works as an MultiIM Client, enabling you to chat and log on Skype, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, Twitter, AIM and Yahoo! Download NOW

5-Mobispine:
The Ultimate RSS Reader for S60 Devices, Mobispine consumes up to 20 times less data traffic compared to surfing the web via Phone browser. Download NOW

4-PhoneTunes:
I Already spoke about this application in my blog, This application enables you to control your PC/Mac iTunes library via Bluetooth, so the device now acts as a remote control, changing songs. doing playlists, it’ll be awesome to use it in a party.
Download NOW, Click for More info

3-Channels:
A Nokia Beta Labs application, and my favourite app ever, this application lets you ditch the local papers for good, enables you to navigate through News and sports services, in a newspaper like way.
Services include: New York Times, and Al Jazeera English. Download NOW

2-emTube
The Best Youtube client for S60, Enables ya to watch youtube hits on the go, you can also download videos in order to watch them later without having to connect to the Internet.
Also, The application works as a .FLV Movie player. Download NOW

And the #1 Application is (Drums roll plz ;) ):

LandscapePro:
This application adds landscape mode to your Nokia N81, A function that should have been integrated in the Firmware, The application is unsigned, and you have to sign it yourself, A guide on how to sign symbian applications is found here. Download NOW

If you’re counting, The above applications adds positioning, instant photo sharing, faster web browsing, free and voIP calls, IM, RSS Reading, Wireless music controlling, Reading news, watching youtube and landscape mode functionality to your N81, Cool, huh :) ?!!

The above list works for any S60V3 Device, not just the N81/N81 8GB.

    Well, that’s werid

Have you tried unzipping it first?

Have you tried to install it directly from Nokia PC Suite, by hooking up your device to your PC, and the device will show up in Nokia PC Suite, After it shows up, double click the unzipped app, and it’ll ask you to send it to your phone.

    @eyenul

Landscape Pro is unsigned, you’ll have to sign it

But unfortunately, due to the new limitations by Symbian Signed, the application is literally unsignable!
