Reduce Your Carbon Emissions Through Your Nokia
Kirollos Fares | April 8, 2008People close to me know that I’m very passionate and care about the environment you and I live in, and in recent years,
The huge demand of power and it’s extraction from hydrocarbons (ex: coal) lead to accumulation of carbon dioxide and green house gases which in turn lead to the dramatic increase in our Earth’s temperature, and is threating life on the long term.
Recently, I have participated in the global Earth Hour Campaign “turning off light, and unnecessary electronic equipment for one hour, and yes that includes your cell phone” , And in this hour, I decided to think of ways to encourage my readers and people who stumble by this post on saving energy, and since this blog is dedicated to Nokia phones, Then these following ways help in keeping power in your phone for the longest time, Increasing it’s efficiency, and saving the environment in the same time, cool, huh?!
- 3G Off!
If you own an Nseries Device equipped with 3G Capabilities, but live in a country or region where 3G Coverage isn’t available OR if you don’t use your 3G Capabilities at all, then disabling 3G is a wise option to choose that’ll keep the juice in your phone for longer periods of time.
Disable 3G in S60 V3 devices by:
Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network then choose GSM from Network mode. - WiFi Auto-search Off!
Some people mistakingly choose the option of letting your WiFi equipped phone search for networks every interval of time, This is a useless option that increases power usage, and disabling it is a must!
Disable WiFi auto-search by:
Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Wireless LAN then choose Never from Show WLAN availability. - Use Headsets:
If you’re a music junkie like me, it’s very hard to listen to music with loudspeakers and maintain power for other operations you normally do with your phone.
By using headsets, not only do you maintain your phone charge, but increase the music playback time, so you can keep on rocking your tunes for a longer period. - Shut Down, Don’t offline!
Most people when they don’t want to handle phone calls anymore, they turn their phone to offline mode, and do nothing with it, which is a waste of charge, when you’re off the phone, give the cell some rest, Offline modes were originally integrated in devices so it can be used without SIM cards and on jet planes. - Recycle Your Phone!
Please take notice that this suggestion is in the long term, don’t get too excited and go recycle your phone!
