N78 Gets It’s First Update
Kirollos Fares | June 26, 2008Start My new blogging season with this piece of news that I am really excited about, and waiting for Nokia to implement it for the rest of it’s cellphone collection.
The Newly released Nokia N78 got it’s first update, via OTA which stands for “Over The Air” meaning that the update is done directly from the cellphone, no need for the software updater client that is a total disaster and doesn’t work on many machines for absolutely no good reason.
And I know you’re proabably thinking, Updating will take a while since normally firmware updates are 100+ Mb, and downlading this amount of data leads to killing the battery and/or keeping you in debt for the rest if you’re life if you’re using a data connection and got no unlimited plan, well believe it or not the update is 2 Mbs only!! Oh Yeah, and directly from your phone, that means it’s the coolest thing ever.
Apparently Nokia has found a way to update only specific things on the firmware, without the need of reinstalling it all again, which is brilliant, and time-saving, On the other hand, it leaves me with security doubts, is this is safe? is someone’s phone gets hacked or receives an annoying virus, Is there a way to completely install the firmware other than resetting to factory settings that sometimes doesn’t help, We’ll have to wait and see.
