Nokia Nseries Designers: Out Of Ideas?!
Kirollos Fares | August 29, 2008
How many of you noticed the huge and obvious similarities in the design of nearly all the newly announced Nseries phones that are all based on the design of the N81? The N96 looks like it, the N78 has some design genes in common and even the newly announced N85 continues this horrifying cycle.
Seriously, Nokia people, are outta your minds? Nokia used to lead the industry in shipping crazy and marvelous phone designs that makes holding a phone feels great, like for instance the N93i’s design, Yah, it’s a gigantic device but at the same time the design is quiet innovative, the N76’s clamshell design and lets not forget about the triple slider patent by Nokia which surfaced a while ago online, I personally loved the N81 design even with it’s flaws, but continuing to build phones with the same looks is quiet boring.
The N79 doesn’t look like the N81, well, at least the front of it, but it’s still looks like a phone from the previous century.
Nokia is the world leader in the Mobile industry, but when it comes to specifications, Nokia isn’t necessarily Number 1, as I explained before, Nokia doesn’t have the urge or rush to bring the latest technology to the market as much as it has the urge to maintain it’s sales by upgrading it’s phones specifications at a very slow pace, which keeps the public buying more, and nearly all the latest Nseries devices have the same specs, the 5 Megapixel camera, GPS on board, WiFi and BT, so the choice of people is narrowed down to design, but when people find all the phones looking this quiet similar and oldish, they’ll start to think of changing the brand they always owned.
Design of Nseries devices is going down the plum, but it’s a different story for the Eseries and numbered devices, the E66 and E71 have great looks, same as the Supernova series Nokia announced before.
So, If things are not going too well for the Nseries designers, then I’d simply suggest a vacation for those poor stressed people in a place that brings the inspiration and craziness back to their minds, like Egypt.
