N86 8MP Announced: One Year Late!

Kirollos Fares | February 17, 2009

Today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Nokia officially announced it’s first 8 Megapixel camera phone the N86 8MP,  With 8GB of internal storage “it’s becoming a habit in Nokia, and I love that!”, N96-like Kick stand. Other than that it boosts the regular Nseries specs; 2.6″ AMOLED screen, a dual-slider form, MicroSDHC Card Slot, WiFi b/g, 3.5G HSDPA, Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Range, A-GPS with compass  and running S60 V3 Feature Pack 2.

The N86 is capable of taking pictures at a speed up to 1/1000 of a  second, thanks to the Carl Zeiss lens, it comes with 3rd generation dual LED flash(!) that supposedly  have a range of 3.5 meters. Battery life isn’t too shabby with an estimated 312 hours of stand-by time and up to 6 and a half  hours of talk time. and it also comes with support for USB charging as well.

Nokia didn’t get too creative when designing this device, it looks like a hybrid between an N97 and an N85; has the looks of the N97 and nearly the same specs of the N85; The differences between the two is that the N86 has an 8 Megapixel camera and 8GB of internal storage. I hate the fact that Nokia included dual LED flash again in such a camera-oriented device, it doesn’t make sense to me at all, this could have been the prefect successor of the N82, the exclusion of Xenon flash made this device dramatically less appealing to me. and I simply hate the fact that this device is nearly one year late, other manufacturers as Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG already released Symbian S60 devices with 8 Megapixel cameras, if the N86 8MP was announced with for example the N85 and N79, it would have had a much warmer reception.

The N86 8MP will be available in Q2 09 for an estimated price of  375€. before taxes and subsidies. Expect a North American edition of this device with AT&T 3G support.
