Nseries Blog Is Now 1 Year Old!

Kirollos Fares | September 28, 2008

This blog survived it’s first year! WoHooo!! I know it’s not the best line to start an anniversary post, but for me, I didn’t expect anything when I started this blog, I didn’t expect me getting pageviews, continuing to blog for a year, reviewing

devices, moving to an independent host, getting to know a lot of great bloggers.

Being an Nokia-related blogger, I got to learn a hell lot more about the company, it’s strategies, it’s way of thinking and it’s products.

Thanks WOM World, the things you do from letting strange people and bloggers like me trial devices to blogging about

every important article written in the Nokia blogshpere in your website whether it praises Nokia or rants about it is simply unprecedented!

Thanks to all the fellow bloggers that made me learn alot about the whole Symbian platform, I’d be typing till midnight If I write names. Read the rest of this entry »

Message to the OVI team: Egypt is NOT the new Gulf.

Kirollos Fares | September 25, 2008

Disclaimer: This post is basically me trying to add a personal touch to this blog, If this topic is of no interest of you, please don’t unsubscribe :D

I’m gonna try to make this thing short, apparently Nokia wants us Egyptians to hate the whole company, First, for not releasing GPS devices in Egypt with a tailored software that disables the GPS (GPS devices are banned, in-depth article here), but we also don’t get access to Nokia’s services, apparently Nokia blocked the Share on Ovi service (and recently, MOSH) in the whole Middle eastern region due to the fear of being blocked by ISPs in the region (Gulf countries block websites that contain pornography, freedom of speech, even voIP), Read the rest of this entry »

Hands on with the HTC Touch Pro: Things I miss most in Nokia Phones

Kirollos Fares | September 24, 2008

Long story short, one of my friends just got the ultra high ultra cool HTC Touch pro, The device feels great in your hand, it has a lot of improvements, software wise and hardware wise, and after 15 minutes of my intensive exploration of everything in the phone, you get bored from the device but addicted it to it in a certain way, I know it’s a weird thing to say, but the device itself has nothing in the software that makes you cling to the phone and punch anyone who’s trying to take it from you, like, for example N-Gage gaming, but it’s addicting as it’s features just makes you not want to give up on it.

Is There Really A Difference Between OLED and LCD Screens?

Kirollos Fares | September 1, 2008

Last week marked the announce of the N85, the first Nokia Nseries device with an OLED screen, something most of us haven’t heard of before.

But first. what is an OLED screen? and what’s so different about it? Well, I had to put my geeky glasses on and start the hard process of researching (i.e searching for OLED in Wikipedia), in a non-confusing non-scientific vocabulary, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) are screens that depends on very minute diodes that light up forming what we see, thus it doesn’t need backlight and this reduces the power consumption dramatically, Read the rest of this entry »

Once Again, We’re Ignored

Kirollos Fares | August 30, 2008

“This was written the day of the launch of the N79 and N85 on a beautiful sandy beach in Hurghada, I simply wrote this because I’m fed up with Nokia’s ignorance to this issue.”

Disclaimer: I’ll try to regard this as the last time I rant about this, so please try to relate to the poor suckers that live in Egypt without legal GPS goodness.

Problem: GPS devices are banned in Egypt for no reason at all, that means we don’t get to buy/try/see/touch/feel :P cool devices like others all over the world.
