I'm curious how is GPS working in the new firmware, because when I upgraded mine it took loooonggg time for GPS too lock, like 4-7 miutes. Now I have a fresh N95 with V20 firmware and it locks in less the 25 seconds.

@bitflung Yupp, it's in there, but it's a little bit slower than Rotateme.

The only thing I resent about this firmware, is the non-prescence of the cool FP2-like transitions of the N81, yes it slows down the device and everything, but it's great eye candy!

i've got it!! only a few changes that i can note so far:

1. 'Download!' - the new download client lets you queue up multiple downloads (background downloading with status displayed). it also offers some widgets in the catalogue (i'm in USA on AT&T, i think the content is based on this info - till now, never had a widget there). also it seems to support keeping tack of your subscriptions? maybe this was in the old one too but i've never used it.

2. RAM - free memory on clean boot is slightly LESS than prior firmware (26.4MB on fresh boot for me vs. 29MB with v21 firmware)

3. Screen Orientation - seems to flip orientation faster with no flicker now (used to be very mild flicker, small delay between screen slide and re-orientation - wish i had 2 N95s so i could compare properly)

that's all i've got for now. not a very impressive list, i know, but i'm still testing things (flash 3 should be better supposedly?). i'm looking forward to the 'big find': the update that makes me really happy that i'm re-installing my apps to have this new firmware...

@K FLYER The answer of our pledges is <a href=http://www.amcham.org.eg/publications/businessmonthly/June%2008/indepth(mobilehandsetmakersurgeendtogpsban).asp rel="nofollow"> here</a>

Quote: His sentiment is echoed by executives at Nokia, the world’s largest mobile handset manufacturer. Nicholas Savander, the company’s vice president and director of services and programs, ruled out the option, explaining that the Finnish firm has already invested an enormous amount of time and money to develop GPS applications for its handsets. “There’s no way to even discuss this issue now,” he says. “We’ve recently launched the second generation of Nokia’s Smart Maps application designed primarily on GPS. This application [offers] maps of cities, restaurants, malls and recreation venues.”

Over 40 percent of all handsets produced by Nokia within the next two years will support GPS-based applications. Savander says it is absurd to consider reversing course at this point. “Who would regress to meet the demands of markets that refuse to keep up with progress when we’re moving at a fast pace towards developing and devising new technologies?”

You are not alone buddy ! ! ! It's a simple firmware revision, I think the chip doesn't even need to be removed. But after all, it's not Nokia's fault. Did the U.S ban GPS even after 9/11 ? I even once started a Facebook group on this (at www.gpsban.tk ). We got a fair amount of members too, but no one seems to be listening or helping us.
